We spend as much time at work as we do at home - or at least it feels that way sometimes. If you want a successful business, creating an inviting workplace for your employees is essential. After all, your business wouldn't be able to run without them. Here are some ways in which you can make your workplace a pleasant place to be and keep your staff content and motivated.

Comfortable Rest Areas

It's vital that your hardworking staff have somewhere to rest and unwind between shifts or on their breaks. You should have adequate seating for the number of people using rest areas at any one time and it should be comfortable and well-maintained. It's also a good idea to provide basic kitchen facilities if possible - a fridge, sink, kettle and microwave are the bare minimum and will give the team a chance to have a hot or cold snack on their breaks.

If you have the space, it's a good idea to provide secure storage for employees. This could be a cloakroom, locker or other storage space where employees can keep coats, bags and other items they bring to work with them.

Health & Safety

Depending on your line of work, you might have to take special precautions when it comes to health and safety. All workplaces should have a first aid kit as a minimum, but it's vital that everyone knows where this is located and what it contains. It should be accessible and should be checked regularly to ensure any used items are replaced as soon as possible.

Healthy and safety literature and posters should be displayed prominently where everyone can see them. Staff should feel safe going about their daily work and should be confident that, in the event of an accident, they will be in good hands.
